Most installs are straight swaps at an existing point. Some kitchens need a new point run to a cabinet that never had one. Both start with a look under the bench and a price on paper.
Our kitchen and laundry plumbing work covers the rest of the room, and the Sandgate home page lists everything we do across the suburb.

Isolation Valve, Inlet Hose and Waste Connection
Three plumbing parts make up the job: an isolation valve on the supply, an inlet hose feeding the machine, and a waste connection draining it. Each part gets checked before we leave.
Isolation valve
A small tap on the water line lets the machine be shut off on its own. Service and replacement then happen without turning off water to the rest of the house.
Inlet hose
A flexible hose runs from that valve to the machine's inlet. The appliance's installation sheet sets the length and fitting type, and we inspect both ends for drips.
Waste connection
The drain hose joins the sink trap at a dedicated outlet and loops upward under the bench. Dirty water then cannot run back into the machine between cycles.
Hose heights and runs follow the appliance maker's instructions. Once everything is connected, we run a full test cycle and watch the valve, the joints and the drain before packing up.

Why the Water Connection Is Licensed Work
Yes, a licensed plumber carries out the supply and waste hookups. Queensland's plumbing laws are strict about who may touch regulated work, and a dishwasher connection sits squarely inside them.
The QBCC, the state's building regulator, keeps a short list of jobs anyone with the right knowledge may do themselves. That list covers shower heads, filter cartridges, tap washers and jumper valves, cistern washers, ground-level drain caps and grates, and irrigation downstream of a tap. A dishwasher hookup is nowhere on it.
The reason is protection: the rules guard the house, the health of everyone in it and the owner's legal standing. The products matter too. Most plumbing fittings fitted in Australia must be WaterMark certified and listed on the WaterMark product database before a licensed plumber can install them.
The machine itself is different. It carries registration under the national water rating scheme instead, which is where the star rating and the per-cycle water use on the label come from. No WaterMark certification applies to the appliance.
Power to the machine is a separate matter outside our trade. We handle the water and the waste, and someone else handles the rest.

Swapping a Dishwasher Versus Adding a New Point
A swap reuses the water and waste points already in the cabinet, while a new point means new pipework. That split decides the paperwork, the time and the price.
A swap at an existing point
is the common job. The old machine comes away, the new one hooks up to the valve and waste already there, and nothing behind the wall gets altered. It is still licensed work, just a smaller one.
Adding a point where none exists
means extending the supply pipe and altering the sanitary plumbing. Queensland calls that notifiable work in a home that already stands: a licensed plumber may do it without council paperwork or inspections, then lodge a Form 4 with the QBCC inside ten business days and give you a copy for your records.
Unit owners should raise the question early. Where several lots share one drain, or the property runs a recycled-water supply, the appliance counts as permit work and the council's approval comes before any tool does. Tell us your address and we will confirm which category applies.

What Sets the Price of Dishwasher Installation
The price moves on three things: whether the cabinet already has a point, how easily the pipes under the bench can be reached, and the paperwork. You get the full figure in writing before we pick up a tool.
Existing or new point
A swap at the old spot costs less than running supply and waste to a fresh position.
Access under the bench
Tight cabinets and crowded pipework add time to a job that looks simple from the front.
Form 4 lodgement
The licensed contractor lodges the form and pays the fee, and may pass that cost, including administrative costs, on to the owner.
The suburb's housing stock shapes the work. Area-level approvals recorded just 60 new dwellings over five years, so nearly every kitchen we open belongs to an earlier building wave.
Cottages off Rainbow Street often run on decades-old services. Water lines laid to the older streets can split beneath footpaths, so we check the supply before trusting it with a new connection.
If your kitchen sink is being replaced at the same time, we quote both jobs together.

Dishwasher Questions Answered
Call (07) 3523 7172Do I need a plumber to install a dishwasher?
Yes, the plumbing side is licensed work in Queensland. The water and drain connections are regulated, and the QBCC's list of unregulated jobs leaves them out. Our licensed plumbers make those connections for your Sandgate kitchen.
Can I install a dishwasher myself in Queensland?
No, not the plumbing. Unpacking the machine and sliding it into the cavity is fine, but the supply and waste hookups need a licence. Self-done connections can void insurance and leave no compliance paper trail.
Can a dishwasher go where there is no water or waste point?
Yes, we run the supply and waste to the new spot. In a Sandgate home that already exists, the job counts as notifiable work, so we lodge a Form 4 with the QBCC within ten business days of completion and hand you a copy.
Can the store that sold my dishwasher connect it?
Yes, provided the installer carries a QBCC plumbing licence. Ask for the licence number before the delivery day and confirm it through the QBCC's register search. The connections stay regulated no matter who signs the invoice.
Why does a dishwasher need its own isolation valve?
A dedicated valve lets one machine be isolated on its own for repairs or a swap, instead of shutting down every tap upstairs and down. It sits within reach before the hose, which keeps future replacements quick.
